A WORD ABOUT POLITICS
te Til »»iroa er w'•»■♦»._ Sir,—Please allow me. space, to express my vie ws-abeut politics, Now we have the farmer epeanng about taxation and term labour coats. In 1929, before Coalition or Labour, the farm worker waft getting more than what be far getting to-day, Married couples at that time ware getting £3 a weak and found; they are only getting to-day «8 and find themselves. Let us take a look at a small town in Canterbury, On the west side of one street are practically nothing else but mercantile firms employing altogether 200 to 300 men, each man receiving from £4 and up to £lO a week: perhaps even more. Who is paying these pen-pushers? The farmer. And yet when he is asked to pay £2 Ps for a teamster he thinks it « ridiculous. Now. which of those men should receive roost money? The man on the land. Those firms I have mentioned are operating in every town end village in New Zealand, And seemingly the National Party is supporting then* by employing one of their managing' directors, . Let us look what Labour has done. It has already wiped off £2,000,000 pf the farmers' mortgages, and is still wiping some more off, Jt has fixed the price of butter-fat, etc.. etc. Now who Is doing the most for the farmer? Thr Labour Party every time; and yet some of them do not want b admit it.— Yours, etc.. TWQISYTSJ). September 19, 1939.
