ST. JAMES CLUB
The fifteenth annual meeting of St. James Tennis • Club was held recently. The finances were shown to be in a satisfactory state. The "report congratulated the club's A team on .reaching the final of the inter-club matches. The following officers were elected: — President, the Rev. F. Cooper; vice-presi-dents, Messrs-- C> MeKellar, F. Ricketts, the Rev. R. de Lambert, and two church- , wardens: treasurer, Mr J. S. Roberts; secretary. Miss Nola Smither; auditor, Mr C. C. Kemp; club captain, Mr P. H. Jones; committee. Misses R. Boyle. J. Chaplin, Mrs Roberts, Messrs Lummis, Grueber, Rookes, Thomas, and Roberts: delegate to Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association, Mr Jones: delegate to Sports Protection
Association, Mr Lummis. . Several players agreed •to join the Umpires' Association. _. , „ ' It .was decided to affiliate with the Canterbury Association and to enter two teams, A and B. - . A vote of thanks was passed to Mr E. Evans, who retired from the position of treasurer because of* ill-health. NORTH LINWOOD CLUB'S. OEENING The North Linwood Tennis Club opened its season on Saturday. There was a large attendance of members and visitors. The vice-president (Mr P. V. Berry) welcomed new members and visitors and referred to the progress the club had made in recent years. He congratulated the-players on ".having won the A grade competition for - two years mi, suc-

Spelling Although she appeared to be in excellent order, Isobel Derby's recent track work did not please her trainer, and it has been decided to give her a short spell. She has always been a difficult mare to get to her best, as her erratic form has often indicated, but when she is moving freely she is a most capable pacer, especially over two miles.

North on Saturday. Mrs Barnes escaped lightly, Mr Barnes was bruised and shaken,, afa Mrs. Jamieson suffered concussion. The party were on their way to Foxton races at the time. They have made plans to leave, shortly for Australia, whither Mrs Jamieson's horses, Catalogue and Conveyer, have preceded them, and .probably the trip will not have to be post-;
