Misses Amy and May Oliver (Surrey Downs. Pleasant Point) have left England on their return to the Dominion.
Mr and Mrs E. A. Kerr ("Belmont," Cave), who have been visiting Timaru, returned home during the week-end. Mrs Massey (Sumner) is staying with her sister, -Mrs G. Hart, Wai-iti road'. Mrs W. D. Campbell and Miss Margaret Campbell (Wai-iti road) left on Saturday to visit Wellington. Mrs.J. Temple (Highfield)) has returned from a visit to Mrs R. B. Temple, Cattle Valley. Miss Daisy Sharp (Wai-iti road) has left England on her return voyage to New Zealand. ' Mr and Mrs R. Stout have removed to Fairview road. To assist in spreading knowledge of the Pan-Pacific Women's Association in South* Canterbury a committee has been set up in Timaru, with the following officers:—President, Mrs W. G. i Tweedy; deputy-president, Mrs D. S. Kemshed; secretary, Miss Tizard. Mrs and Miss Compton, who were the guests of Mrs W. A. Fleming (Selwyn street), have left on their return to Wellington; Mrs Purcell Hiinter-Weston ("Hunterslea," Albury) spent the .week-end with her mother, Mrs W. J. Taylor, Selwyn street. . "-.• , Mrs G. L. Almond (Nelson terrace) left yesterday for Wellington. Miss Islip, who was staying with Miss Adams (Sealy street), has returned to Christchurch. Mrs C. 'Kerr (Rata Peaks), who was the guest of Miss Loo Cartwright (Orbell street), has returned home. Mrs Neilson (Christchurch) is staying with Mrs R. W. Allen has returned from a visit to Wellington, Miss Ngaire Taylor has left for Singapore, where her marriage to Mr Alan Griffin will take place. Mrs H. E. Burden is visiting her sister Mrs R. Noble-Adams, Picton.
There was a large attendance at the Balcairn Hall, when the Balcairn Basketball Club held its annual dance Music was supplied by Fritz Seymour s orchestra with extras by Messrs E. Smith and L. Thomas _<Broomfield) Messrs K. and J. Smith were masters of ceremonies. Novelty dances were won by Mr'K. Langford and partner. Mr A. Rowney and partner, and Mr- T. Stanley and partner. Thirty women .were at Cambridge this month talking to the British Association on 10 different sections of science. Nine of the women spoke or botany and zoology, and seven on anthropology. When Sir Arthur Keith, England's leading anthropologist, delivered his lecture on "The Middle Palaeolithic" he was assisted by Miss D. A. E. Garrod, while Miss Caton-Thompson told of her expedition to South Arabia, Miss W. Lamb spoke on the excavations in prehistoric Anatolia, and Miss E..W. Gardner on "South Arabian Palaeoliths." Mathematics and physics were also subjects for lectures by. women at the conference.' Dr. Olga Taussky spoke on "Differential Equations and Hyper-Complex Systems."
FANCY DRESS PARTY GATHERING AT SEFTON
A most enjoyable fancy dress dance for children and adults was organised by the Sefton School committee and,held in the Public Hall. Many visitors from neighbouring districts attended V. the Lincoln Football Club's annual bail which was held in the Lincoln Public Hall.

MOTHERS' UNION AT
DARFIELD
Mrs H. Reed presided at the monthly meeting of the Darfleld branch of the Mothers' Union. It was announced that the annual egg collection for St. Saviour's Orphanages would take place next month. Mrs H. Reed read a paper on the education of children.
