The motor vessel Holmlea, owned by Holm and Company, bound to from Westport with a cargo of coal, signalled a message to the pilot station at Wanganui about 6 o'clock to-night, that some mishap had occurred to her steering and that she was unable to make port without assistance. ' It- had been decided to stand - out to sea in the meantime and if possible effect repairs. To-morrow -morjjing, if. the need for assistance is still apparent, the Wanganui Harbour Board's tug, Kahanui, may put to. sea and bring the vessel in.. She was in no danger tonight, standing well off shore to the south of the entrance.
The Holmlea is not a regular trader to Wanganui. She usually trades between Wellington, New Plymouth and Port Waikato. She is in the. coal trade at present because the Rata is undergoing her annual overhaul.
