COMPULSORY CONFERENCE

The Federal Arbitration Court has stepped into the coal dispute, and a compulsory conference between representatives of both sides has been convened to meet in Melbourne on Friday. The miners' representatives want the conference iin Sydney because the strike control is being exercised here.

The Miners' Federation officials have fixed the scale of relief during the period of the coal strike. It varies from 18s a fortnight for a youth to £4 13s a fortnight for a married man with six dependants.
