MOTOR-CYCLE SPEED TESTS

SUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS AT WAIMAIBI BEACH

Two new New Zealand motor-cycle records over half a mile were made over a course at Walmairl Beach on Saturday 'afternoon. The ' attempts were sponsored by the Canterbury Auto-Cycle Club, which arranged the day’s meeting. The new records and their holders are:—

250 c.c.: O. Williams, 73.17 miles an hour.

350 c.c.: S. Crawshaw, 92.78' miles fin hour.

The records were made in spite of weather unfavourable for high speeds. 1,. E. Evans, the. only contender for the 500 c.c. title, was unfortunate, in striking minor engine trouble, which prevented him from attaining full speed, his speed for the course being 102.27 miles an hour.

Two further attempts on the 500 c.c. record were held at Kairaki Beach yesterday, when L. E. Evans and W. Nelson were again unsuccessful, Evans regisiering an average of 105.88 miles an hour, and Nelson 103.45 miles an hour. Gold star trials were also held, and resulted as. follows: Waimairi 500 c.c.
