ANNUAL DANCE

PENINSULA RUGBY SUB-

GATHERING AT DUVAUCHELLE

The Duvauchelle Hall was gaily decorated on Friday evening, when members of the Peninsula Rugby SubUnion entertained friends at their annual dance. There was a large and representative gathering of footballers and supporters, including visitors from Christchurch and all parts of the Peninsula.

Excellent arrangements for the entertainment had been made by the United Bays’ Football Club, Before presenting the shield and cups, Mr V. Craw, president of the Peninsula Rugby Sub-Union, thanked all who had helped to make the dance successful. He specially thanked Mr T. E. McKenzie (honorary secretary), Mrs McKenzie, Mr and Mrs C. Dalbeth, the referees, and the, women for their ready help in providing teas. This year several of the sub-union’s players had been selected "for the Canterbury B team, and had played well. Mr Craw congratulated the players and' presented the following awards: Senior competition—Banner for inter-club competition and Candy Cup (for play in the second round) —Won by Little River. Springvale and Blythcliffe Cups for seven-a-side competitions, won by Akaroa. Junior competition—Cup for interclub competition, and Tipperary Cup for seven-a-side competition, won by Eastern Bays. Messrs T. Robinson, T. E. Armstrong and T. Haley returned thanks on behalf of their respective teams. Dance music was provided by Martin Winiata’s Argonaut Orchestra, and extras were played by Mrs J, McNabb. Mr C. Dalbeth was master of ceremonies, and Mrs Dalbeth was in charge of the supper arrangements. A large cake, given by the Mayor of Akaroa (Mr F, R. E. Davis), was cut by Mr C. Stewart, who had given the longest service to the sub-union. Novelty dances were won by Miss Aileen Giddens and Mr T, E. Armstrong, and Mr and Mrs W. W. Reid. Those present included Mr V. LADIES’ AUXILIARY ENTERTAINS

The ladies’ auxiliary of the New Brighton Returned Soldiers’ Association held an ‘‘at home” in the Social Hall, and more than 50 members and friends attended.

The arrangements were made by a committee comprising Mesdames F. Price (president), A. E. Nesbitt (secretary), Teague, H. Jack, J. Harris, Booth, Herrick, W. Cant, Beardsley and Crew, assisted by Mrs .Fraser. Items were giveii by the Jayet family, Mesdames Pollard, Quaid, L. Ebert, Toms, L. Chamberlain, McDougall, Saunders, and Miss Doreen Taylor.
