No conclusion was reached when an application for a Dominion' award for engine-drivers, employed by hospital boards,:, was; resumed before the Conciliation Commissioner in Wellington on Saturday., ! A tentative'agreement was reached on hours » of • work, by which thesewould; be : 40 'a ' week spread over seven days of five .shifts, no shift to be more than eight hours. The employers’ -wages offer to cover aU workers was £5 -a week/for drivers with aisecond-class certificate, and £4 17s 6d • a week for nomcertiflcated workers. The union ,coppter r claimecl for rates of £5 7s 6_d 'and -£5 -2s »6d respectively. For holidays,. sick leave and medical and treatment, the employers-offered -the ‘conditions under the by-laws'of the various hospital boards. , -• .. , • The dispute was adjourned till ; October 21.
