SENIOR KNOCK-OUT COMPETITION
WIN FOR WORKING MEN’S CLUB
[By BULLSEVEJ Last Thursday evening all the senior grade, teams which in the Christchurch Miniature Rifle Association’s winter tournament met on the association range for the Anal teams' knock-out competition. Nearly 100 members took part, and the competition was keenly contested although in some instances the shooting did not reach a very high standard. Christchurch Working Men’s Club with the flue total of 556, won the event, repeating its success of last season. After the shooting a smoke concert was held, at which Mr P. A. Leßrun (president of the Christchurch Miniature Rifle Association) presented the trophies won during the season as follows:—Beaven Cup (champion team, 1938), United; Turner and Leßrun Cup (teams’ aggregate), Marist Old Boys; knock-out competition, Christchurch Working Men's Club; Pimm Cup (senior aggregate), F. Hodge

New Brighton had the highest total in the grade and beat Marist easily. L. Mason 70, T. Flintoft 70, and A. Venner 70, had the leading scores for the winning team. D. Yeoman 69, was top-scorer for Marist. Gough, Gough, and Hamer A beat United by six points. S. Bultitude 69 and J. Bain 69 were the leading scorers for Gough, Gough, and Hamer. A. Smith and D. Ramsay, with similar scores, shot well for United. • New Brighton Ladies shot well below form and were beaten by Working Men’s Club' by. four points. J. Roberts 69 and H. Motor Assemblies beat Gough, Gough and Hamer B by five points. A. Cookson 69 was top-scorer for the winning team. R. Ople 69, and T. Fife 68 shot well for Gough, Gough, and Hamer. Gas Company had a good win over Legion of Frontiersmen. W. Murray 69, was top scorer for Gas Company, H. Davey 69, and T. Hunter 68. shot well for Legion of Frontiersmen.

The annual miniature match between teams representing the Sydenham and Christchurch Defence Rifle Clubs will take place on the association range next Thursday. The final shoot in the New Zealand Association’s series is the Witcombe and Caldwell Cup competition, which will take place between September 19 and October 1. The entry is ■ open to teams of five men, the conditions being 19 shots a man on the metric target. The winning team last year was Napier, which established a record for the metric target, scoring 743 points out of a possible total of 750. The Christchurch and Sydenham Defence Rifle Clubs will open their seasons at Redcliffs next Saturday.
