"BACK TO THE REICH"
Proclamation Issued
By Sudetens
ALLEGED ATROCITIES BY
CZECHS
' (UMITKD PRESS *SIOCHTIO« —COPTXIOHT.) 1 (Received September 16, 10 p.m.) LONDON, September 15. It is reported from Eger that simultaneously with Mr Chamberlain's arrival at Munich, Herr Henlein broadcast a proclamation for wjiich all radio programmes in Germany were interrupted. Herr Henlein declared: "We want to live as free Germans. We want peace to work in our home. We want to go back to the Reich." Herr Henlein said: "Realising my responsibility, I declare before the world that Czech oppression has reached its zenith with the use of machine-guns and tanks, showing the impossibility of living with the Czechs. Twenty years of terror, plus a heavy blood sacrifice in the last few days, compel me to declare: "(1) We were forced into the Czech State. against our wills regardless of the right of self-deter-mination.
"(2) Without renouncing our rights, we attempted under heavy sacrifices, to secure our existence. "(3) The- Czech people's efforts to reach an honest and just solution failed because of their uncompromising will to destruction." The Sudeten German leaders at Asche issued a manifesto stating:— "The Czech democracy has finally let fall its hypocritical mask. Defenceless women, children, and hundreds of dead seriously accuse it. Under the guise of humanitarian phrases it plunders and murders. Its tactics are only comparable to the Bolshevist atrocities in Spain. The Sudeten Germans tell the entire would that they sought a peaceful solution to the last minute, The Czechs have rejected all Herr Henlein's demands. In view of these conditions, it is self-evident that every Sudeten German will defend, with every means, his life and the lives of his family against the murdering and plundering hordes."^ Herr Henlein, who is stul at Asche," makes it known that he will re.«i e t any attempts to arrest him. The Berlin newsoaners bitterly comment on events in Czechoslovakia. The "Lokal Anzeiger" states: "The Czech revolution has broken out and threatens Europe."
