Sir William Hunt arrived in Christchurch from the North Island by the steamer express yesterday morning. Mr D. Barnes, M.P., was a passenger from Wellington by yesterday morning's steamer express.

Mr C. J. Talbot was among the arrivals from the north by the inter-island steamer yesterday.

A resolution ,of sympathy with the relatives of Archbishop Julius was carried at last night's meeting of the Heathcote County Council. The chairman, Mr A. G. Williams, paid a tribute to the work Archbishop Julius, who for many years had lived at Cashmere in the Heathcote County, had done for the whole community. Mr R. L. Webb and Mr E. P. Sanders, of the Telegraph Engineer's staff, Christchurch, together with Mr R. L. C. Grant, of the Dunedin Telegraph Engineer's staff, are undergoing a signals training course at the Army School, Trentham. On their return they will be commissioned and posted to the New Zealand Corps of Signals. • Lieutenant Grant will take .charge of the newly-formed section of the New Zealand Corps of Signals at Dunedin, while Second-Lieutenants Webb and Sanders will be posted to" the Christchurch depot. Dr. Ralph Harlow, who is visiting New Zealand under the direction of the Carnegie Endowment for PeaceV will arrive in Christchurch by the steamer express from the North Island this;morning and will'spend the weekend in Dr. Harlow is a processor at. Smith College, Northampton, America, and has travelled, "extensively, particularly as visiting professor to universities in the Orient and the Near East. For several years he was head of the department of sociology at the International College at Smyrna, Turkey. During the war he served with the American forces, and , for a time was associated with the New Zealand Division. During his Christchurch visit, Dr; Harlow will speak at Knox and St. Paul's Presbyterian Churchs to-morrow, and he hopes to meet university students and those interested in the work, of peace.
