FRIDAY (Before Mr H. Morgan, S.M.) THEFT CHARGE

Alexander Francis Robinson, aged 57, was charged with the theft at Christchurch on May 26 of a Post Office Savings Bank box (value 2s 6d) and 3s 2d in money, the property of Jessie Marie Watts. He also appeared for sentence on a charge of. using obscene' language in Gloucester street on July 27. . On each charge he was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment with hard labour.

CONVERSION OF CAR ALLEGED Patrick James Bennett, aged 17, was charged with converting to his own use at Ashburton on September 15 a motor-car valued at £330, the property of Cyril John Chapman. _ In asking for a remand, Chief-De-tective W. H. Dunlop said that on April 2 Bennett was sentenced to two years' detention in a Borstal institution. He escaped at Invercargill two days ago, and it was allege that he had converted cars at Invercargill, Dunedin, Oamaru, and Ashburton. Bennett was remanded to September ?2. TRAFFIC CASES The following offenders were dealt with for breaches of the traffic regulations, fines carrying costs in each case unless otherwise stated: —

No driver's licence: Edgar William Barlow, 10s Cno warrant, of fitness, 10s); Leslie George Smith, 10s. Cycling at night without a light: Charles Hansman, 7s 6d; John Patrick O'Connor, 10s; Sydney Thorpe, 10s. Driving without due care and attention: Clarence Myers Auton (Mr B. A. Barrer), £3; James Lyttelton Sadler, £3, and licence suspended for one month.

Negligent driving: Eric Lincoln Vincent, £3, and licence suspended for one month (convicted and discharged for cutting a corner). Failing to give way: Garth Wood, £3 (no warrant of fitness, 10s); James Duncan (Mr K. G. Archer), £2 10s. Driving car without sufficient lights: Richard Gibson Woodward, 10s.

Driving without reasonable consideration for other users of the road: Albert James Heybourn (Mr J. A. Kennedy), £3, and licence suspended for one month (driving without due care and attention, £2). (Before Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M.)

Failing to gi/e way: Ernest Charles Sutcliffe, 20s. (Before M- Raymond Ferner, S.M.) Driving without due care and attention: George Stanley Flint, costs only. Charges against Ethel Florence Biggs (Mr R. Twyneham) and Annie Robertson Barker (Mr R. Twyneham), of driving without due care and attention, were dismissed.
