OBITUARY
MR GEORGE SHIPLEY
The death occurred suddenly, of Mr George Shipley at his residence, "Island Farm," Harewood. He was a son of the late Mr Burton Shipley and was born in Greendale 59 years ago.
Mr Shipley was educated at the Charing Cross and Greendale Schools. He was considered a very successful sheepfarmer, having farmed at Greendale, Marlborough, and Harewood. Mr Shipley took a keen interest in public affairs and had various time's served on the Greendale and Harewood School Committees, the Paparua County Council, the Waimairi County Council, and the Canterbury Progress League. At the time of his death he was a member of the ChristchurSh Technical College Board of Governors, the New Zealand Alliance, and the Papahui Bowling Club. He is survived by his wife, his four sons, Messrs E. G., B. W., F. H., and A. L. Shipley, and six grandchildren. The funeral, which was largely at> tended, was held at the Harewood cemetery. The bearers were Messrs H. Morland and . C. \B. Robson (nephews), C. G. Jarman, and E. P. Maddison (brothers-in-law), and W. F. McArthur and L. B. Freeman. Among the wreaths were tributes from the Harewood branch o/ the Women's Division of .the Farmers' Union,' Dalgety and Company, Field and Royds, Waimairi County Council, staff and committee of the Harewood School, Fapanui Bowling Club; Bap-
tist-Harrier Club, Canterbury Masonic Lodge, Harewood Cricket Club, Canterbury Frozen Meat Company, Canterbury Land Board, the Forensic Club, New Zealand Alliance, Riccarton Guide Company, and board meihr bers and staff of the Technical College.' I
