POLITICAL MEETINGS ON SUNDAYS
TO Tax BSZTOB OX TKX l-XEBS. Sir, —Your correspondent “Spectator” would have done well had he gone into the Oddfellows’ Hall and heard the very able and humanitarian speech delivered by Dr. McMillan. Had he come out of church he would have had ample time, as I parked my car alongside the church gate about 8 p.m. The congregation were coming out then, and the meeting did not commence until 8.15; so how could the evening service be in progress? Regarding a suitable hall, I should like to inform “Spectator” that me chairman of the meeting apologised for not being able to hold it in the Rex Theatre, but he did not disclose the reason for not being able to do so. Does the Riccarton Borough Council object to granting licences for political meetings on Sundays? If it does 1 am sure it would be very interesting to readers of “The Press” to know which members of the council object. —Yours, etc., VOTER. September T5, 1938.
