K.Z. TROTTING CUP
LAWN * DERBY TO TAKE PART ATTEMPT ON MILE RECORI (Received September 15, 11.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, September 15. The “Sydney Sun” reports that Lawn Derbv will revisit New Zealand for the New Zealand Cup, to be run at Addington in November. Lawn Derby will also make another attempt to lower Indianapolis’s record for a mile. AUCKLAND NOTES SMALL TEAM FOR WELLINGTON [THE PRESS Special Service.! AUCKLAND, September 15. Although he has a large team in work covering all classes, the Takanini trainer, F. J. Smith, will be sparsely represented at the Wellington meeting. Only three' are engaged, Bexley Girl, Baron Alfonso, and a filly by Truman Direct from Daisy pointer, the last-named being in the stakes. She has not raced, which will be against her, but she shows promise, and maternally she claims relationship to Frisco Lady and Frisco Boy. Both Bexley Girl and Baron Alfonso are giving away one second in their races. The latter a few years back threatened to go far in the game, but after several poor displays his owners, the Hon. Mark n and Sir Ernest Davis, sold him for about £1?, Mr W. Hosking being the purchaser. Baron Alfonso recently raced unsuccessfully for C. H. Goodall, but is now back at Smith’s establishment.' Bexley Girl made good progress last season until she contracted some ailment which put her out of commission for a period. Reappearing at Wanganui in June, she was placed in both starts. The fact that Smith is prepared to give away time with the Jack Potts mare will ensure her plenty of support in her engagements. The only other northern candidate, Hottentot, is a maiden in C. Moran’s stable. By Rey de Oro from Bounty, he has not had much race experience, but attracted some notice at Epsom last month. If the grass track is favourable Nervie’s Last will make an effort to lower his freo-legged mile record of 2min 4 2-ssec at the Auckland owners’ and trainers’ matinee meeting on October 1.
