.OAMARU. POST OFFICE OPENING OF NEW WING NEXT WEEK PROGRESS MADE IN RENOVATIONS The money order and savings bank branch of the Oamaru Post Office will probably be installed on the ground floor of the new wing in Meek street towards the latter end of next week, according to an estimate given by the Chief Postmaster (Mr J. B. Purcell), in an interview with “The Press” yesterday. The wing has been completed, but the scaffolding has yet to be dismantled and it is anticipated that this will be done next week. The rest of the renovations to the general counter and the mail room would not be finished for some six or eight weeks, said Mr Purcell. The new posting panel to be installed in the vestibule was at present being made in Dunedin, and was -expected to arrive ;in Oamaru during the’ next fctv days. The Oamaru stone on the side of the old building facing Meek street has already been scraped and cleaned, and a start has been made on the front of the building. The north wing of the old building, at present occupied by the money order and savings bank branch, will be demolished, and an entrance 20 feet wide will be provided for the mail vans to the mail room. This work will be begun when the branch is installed in its new offices.
