CANTERBURY CLUB
ANNUAL REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET
A decrease of four in the membership of last year is recorded in the annual report of the Canterbury Rowing Club, to be presented at the seventy-eighth annual meeting next Thursday. Twenty-one active members were elected during the year, but resignations through transfer had been equally numerous. The total is made up as follows, last year’s figures being shown in parenthesis:—Life members, 14 (14); fully-paid members,, 36 (36); honorary life ,■ members, 5 (5); honorary members. 41 (38); country mem-' bers, 52 (47); active members, 53 (65); women members, 17 (17); total, 218 (222). ■ " The balance-sheet shows that expenditure had exceeded income for; the year by. £l2, 16s. lid. Income from subscriptions is reduced ‘very little, but loss on regattas and social functions are unwelcome items, the report .continues. ■ Little success had attended the regattas during the season, only one first being recorded, but a marked improvement had been shown at the Lake Forsyth regatta. A subscription list had* been opened late in the season to provide funds for the purchase of a new racing four, and to date about '£2o had been promised. ■■ The report referred to the loss suffered by the club in the death of two early members, Mr E. M. Boulton, who was club captain in 1880-90, and Mr A. C Pavitt, who was also a very old member. A further loss to rowing in Canterbury was the death of-Mr, D. Lee. - ' ' .
