REPORT ON DISCUSSIONS WITH AMURI

ALTERATION OF BOUNDARIES NOT FAVOURED -

The delegates who- met the Amur! Gounty Council at Culverden to discuss a proposed alteration of boundaries and the amalgamation.of-.the two counties reported on the discussion to the meeting of the Cheviot County Council There were present Crs. .W. L. Foster, j. D. E. Winskill, J. Paton. ,1). McLaren, M. C. Hyde, W. R. Wilkinson, and J. F. McFarland.. It was decided to advise the Amur! Council that the Cheviot County Council was not in favour of any alteration of boundaries until such time as the question of amalgamation was completed. . The council agreed to go to its full quota ot £lOl 3s, subject to all other Canterbury local bodies contributing on the same basis as set out on . the original-schedule. -

The Canterbury Progress League wrote asking for a grant .towards its funds. The council was not able to make a grant as there were no funds available for that purpose.

It was decided to proceed with the erection of a new bathing shed at Gore Bay. The question of the council taking over the Cheviot Hall; from the Domain Board was fully discussed. Plans of (proposed alterations and additions were submitted by the engineer (Mr R. L. Lindsay). . It finally decided to submit a proposal to the ratepayers that a loan of £2500 be raised for taking over the hall and carrying but the necessary alterations. Mr H. M. Petrie was appointed pound-keeper.
