Entertaining wrestling was provided at the Theatre Royal last night, when “Lofty" Biomfleld, 16st 81b. met Pat Fraley, 16st. The bout lasted the whole eight rounds %nd ended in a draw. There was a large attendance. Because of the keen rivalry between these two wrestlers, the crowd expected something In wrestling fare. Though there was nothing sensational in the contest, it.was certainly willing. . Some showmanship was in evidence in practically every round, but there was a lot of real wrestlitßlomfleld gained the first fall with a Boston crab in the fifth round. equalised in the last round with a doublebarred toe-hold, which had the characteristics of an octopus clamp. A feature of the bout was the number of times Fraley applied his favourite flying toehold in the closing stages. Blomfield escaped from three, but the fourth Fraley manoeuvred into the double-barred toehold that led to a submission fall. ■ The bout was exceptionally st r ®m* ou ? and at times the referee (Mr J. S. Shaw) experienced some difficulty in separating the contestants. Bound by Round Fraley was the aggressor in the first round and dealt out a series of elbow jolts. When Blomfield retaliated with similar tactics, Fraley managed to deliver a few punches with a closed fist tyhen the referee was on the blind side. Blomfield scored with a barred toe-hold and then he encountered trouble with an arm stretch and wrist lock, Fraley making the best of a successful manoeuvre. At the start of the second round Blomfield went down heavily and Fraley administered some doubtful elbow Jolts. Blomfield then punished Fraley with a resounding elbow jolt in the jaw. The referee had to intervene when Blomfield had the other’s head entangled in the ropes. Fraley took Blomfield to the mat In a headlock, and a fall seemed likely but Blomfield broke the hold and punished Fraley with a head scissors. Fraley broke it, but Blomfield threw him to the mat and repeated the hold. Fraley appeared to be groggy when the gong sounded. Fraley shaped up like a boxer in the third round and a vigorous exchange of elbow jolts followed. Then Fraley succeeded with a good drop-kick. Both went down and Blomfield applied a secure crucifix. , „ , . Early in the fourth round Fraley scored with a short-arm scissors. Blomfield somersaulted twice, endeavouring to break the hold, but Fraley held on like a leech. Blomfield then slowly worked himself on to his feet, but Fraley threw him again, still retaining the! hold. Blomfield eventually freed himself and hold Fraley in a barred toe-hold, when the gong sounded. The First Fall The fifth round produced a particularly lively barrage of elbow Jolts from Blomfield and Fraley sank to his knees. When he recovered he caught Blomfield by surprise and applied a head scissors. Blomfield rolled out of it and in a flash had Fraley by the legs with his head on the mat. The crowd went nearly frantic when Blomfield was awarded a fall for a Boston Cr ßoth scored with barred toe-holds in the sixth round, but Biomfleld. was, the more successful. They ended up in a hopeless tangle of legs, and the referee offered to extricate them, but Blomfield refused. The instant they broke clear they resorted to elbow jolting. Just before the end of the round Fraley made determined efforts to get a fall with a short-arm scissors and a press, but Blomfield managed to keep one shoulder up until the gong sounded. . . Both used the short-arm scissors to advantage In the seventh round, and then Biomfleld scored with a body scissors. Blomfield then threw his opponent heavily to the mat. Then Fraley clapped on his favourite flying toe-hold, but Blomfield would not give in and succeeded in breaking it with the other foot. He crawled to his corner and rose to his feet. Fraley applied the hold . again, and again Blomfield broke it. much to Fraley’s dismay Fraley was the victim of punishment by a toe-hold when the round ended. Fraley applied his third flying toe-hold early in the last round and Blomfield sought the refuge of the ropes. Blomfield again escaped from the' hold. Blomfield scored with toe-holds and then Fraley clapped on a fourth flying toe-hold, which he manoeuvred into a double-barred toehold, having the characteristics of an octopus clamp. With this hold he gained a submission fall, making the result a draw. Amateur Bouts The amateur preliminaries resulted as follows: — ■ Light-weight—H.-P. Batt (lOstUlb) beat W.
