N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNEYS

SENIOR EVENTS TO BE HELD IN CHRISTCHURCH

WELLINGTON, September 15

Mr H. N. Burns, secretary of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, announced to-day that the New Zealand championship tournament would be held in Christchurch from December 31, 1933, to January 7, 1939, both days inclusive. ... The New Zealand junior championship tournament will be held at Wanganui from January 11 to 14, 1939, both days inclusive.

CATHEDRAL CLUB

SUCCESSFUL YEAR REVIEWED

The annual meeting of the Cathedral Tennis Club was held recently, Mr F. Pender" presiding over a good attendance. \ The annual report showed that the last season had again been a most successful one. The club retained the senior mixed grade shield, and was runner-up in the senior men’s. grade. Two members. Misses T. and I. Poole, represented Canterbury in the Nunneley Casket match against Wellington, which was won by Canterbury. It was decided to allow a subscription rebate of 2s 6d a member for every new senior financial member introduced into the club during the coming season. Representing the newly-formed Canterbury Lawn Tennis Umpires’ Association, Mr D. Martin addressed the meeting, explaining the objects and proposed activities of this important association. Three members said they were willing to join the association. It was decided to hold the opening day on October 2. The election of officers resulted:— Patrons, Bishop Brodie and Sir Cyril Ward; president, Mr James Mercer; active vice-presidents. Rev. Father McKeown, Messrs D. Galvin and F. Pender; honorary vice-presidents, Rev. Fathers Andersen, Timoney, O’Meeghan, Maguire, and Quinn, Bro. Damian, the Hon. W. Hayward, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, Dr. E. B. Reilly, Dr. J. P. McQuilkin, Messrs G. Dobbs, J. F. McKendry. P. Ryan, T. Anderson. J. M. Coffey, and O. Watson; secretary, Mr J. Thompson; treasurer, Mr L. P. Mahar; assistant secretary and treasiirer, Mr D. Martin; _ club captain, Mr B. Daley; vice-captain, Mr A. Telford; custodian, Mr W. Stribling; executive, Misses V. Flood, P. Ballinger, M. Grimes, A. Kennedy, and J. Mercer, Messrs W. Ives, B. Leydon, E. Boland, and B. Stribling; delegates to Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association, Messrs J. Mercer and D. Martin; selectors and tournament committee, Messrs 3. Daley, W. Ives and B. Leydon; delegate to Sports Protection Association, Mr L. Mahar; auditor, Mr R. Boland.

LINWOOD AVENUE CLUB

The annual meeting of the Lmwood Avenue Tennis Club was held recently, Mr G. W. Horton presiding. The annual report showed that the club had had a successful season, with an increased membership. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan; president, Mr G. W. Horton; vicepresidents, Messrs JR. McPherson and L. Harris; secretary and treasurer, Mrs D. I. Horton; club captain, Mr H. C. Hill; vice-captain, Mr R. Neilson; committee, Mrs J. Wilby, Misses M. Ironside and B. Orrey, Messrs K. Falloon and C. McPherson. Opening day was fixed for September 24.
