LABOUR INVASION OF RICCARTON
TO THIS EDITOR OF THB PRESS. Sr—The Labour Party is invading the Riccarton electorate. This is the second time that the Hon. R. Semple has come into the Riccarton electorate during the absence in Parliament oi Mr H S. S. Kyle. What is the matter with Mr Langford that he has to have a contingent of Labour M.P.s with him when he meets the electors, because Sunday night's meeting was nothing else but a political meeting to further the interest of Mr Langford. Dr. MeMillan said as plainly as he could. 1 want you people to vote f°£M£L an g* ford and not Mr Kyle. The Hon. R. Semple’s speech was nothing but abuse of the Opposition party. The Riccarton people are not going to be misled by such statements as we heard last Sunday night. I am wondering if the Labour Party has decided that one ol their flock should accompany Mr Langford on his election campaign in case he forgets himself and comes out with one of the Speeches he used at other elections when- he was opposed to Labour. I am a resident of 25 years, live near the hall, and am well known by Riccarton people. It would be quite safe to say that only about onefifth of the attendance on Sunday night were Riccarton electors. Some came from Woolston and Opawa to my knowledge. And was the medical student who moved the resolution a Riccarton elector? , x We read in the paper that Parliament was to meet on the Monday. The present member, Mr H. S. S. Kyle, returned to Wellington on Saturday evening to be in his place on the Monday, while three Labour men raided his district to do a man an injury when he was away doing his duty. It would be interesting to know if the Labour men were in their places on Monday morning. In conclusion I want to say; let them send their Hitlers, their Mussolinis, or their Russian ambassadors, as many as they like, but they will find that we have John Bull in the person of Mr H. H. S. Kyle, who, like old England in size, has a heart that is large and as strong as a lion and is able to fight alone and win without stooping to such sniping as Labour is adopting in the Riccarton electorate. During all the years Mr Kyle has represented Riccarton not once to my knowledge has he had to resort to a meeting on a Sabbath evening. But I am glad this has happened because we now know how much regard these men have for the sacredness of the Sabbath day and the Christ they claim to be their example in their humanitarian schemes. Who once said, “Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy.”—. Yours, etc., A SEEKER OF THE TRUTH. September 14. 1938.
