MORTGAGE ADJUSTMENT COMMISSIONS
TO THE EDITOB 0? TEE PEEBS. Sir, —“Agricola” has hit the nail on the head when ,he points but that it is not the man who has done his best to rhake his farm pay who is receiving encouragement and help under the present system of mortgage relief. The man who got disheartened and went on relief or sustenance, the while he continued to occupy the mortgaged premises and use the produce thereof, and let payments of interest, rates, and other charges wait, stands a good chance of having all the arrears remitted, and the capital reduced; his land has benefited by the rest, and he can now go ahead. His neighbour, who has worked all the time to make the land pay its way as far as mortgages, rates, or rent were concerned, whether it paid a living wage- or not, and who so long as others got their own, left all repairs and maintenance to be attended to “when better times come,” is left with perhaps an extension of time and reduction of rate, of interest. His land is starved for want of necessary expenditure, and heavy repair bills are looming large. He has, of course, the satisfaction of seeing his neighbour get. a fresh start, but for himself “Virtue is its own reward,” < —Yours, etc.» NEVERMORE.
