WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
SPRINGFIELD The monthly meeting of the Springfield Women’s Institute was held in the local hall, with Mrs McKeown presiding. A presentation was made to Mrs Copeland, one of the foundation members, who is leaving the' district. During the afternoon Mrs J. Kelly and Miss J. Saundercock gave their report on the Women's Institute conference held recently in Wellington. Members of Mrs J. Kelly's group were hostesses at the tea hour. One new member. Mrs Topp. was welcomed. ROTHERHAM Mrs Robinson presided over a good attendance of members at the September meeting of the Rotherham Women’s Institute. The motto for the month was “If you cannot get what you like, like what you get.” An invitation was received from the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union to attend its next meeting at Culverden. The roll call was, “Should a husband clean his wife’s shoes?" Results of competitions were:—Best article made from a 251 b flour bag; Miss M. Mclntosh 1. Best blooms (large): Mrs Palmer; (small). Miss J. Popplewell. The hostesses were Mesdames J. Gallagher, H. Gallagher, and Flintoft. SCARGILL-MOTUNAU The monthly meeting of the ScargxHMotunau Women’s Institute was held recently; Mrs Fox presided. The motto was “Do as much as you can. never mind who gets the credit.” wad the roll-call a riddle. Mrs Bradley gave a report on the conference held in Wellington recently. Members were welcomed from the Waipara and Omihi Institutes.
