DOMINION DISPUTE SETTLED

Agreement was reached to-day In Conciliation Council in Wellington on the outstanding questions in the application of flock workers for a Dominion award. Mr M. J. Reardon. Conciliation Commissioner, presided. When the application was first heard in March last agreement was reached on hours and on wages, except in so far as the latter referred to female workers. At to-day’s hearing- the workers dropped the age basis for wages for female workers and adopted that of the employers of paying on experience.

Wages were fixed to begin at 17s 6d a week, rising by half-yearly increases of 4s to 37s 6d at the end of the third year. Wages for the fourth year were fixed at 42s 6d. and thereafter at 47s 6d. Shift work was agreed upon, with the provision asked for by the workers’ representatives that if experience showed this method to be unsatisfactory it could be appealed against at the expiration of the award. Workers employed on night shift are to receive 2d an hour extra and a halfhour crib time is to be given without reduction of pay. Holidays were fixed at eight statutory holidays and two extra days without pay. The new scale of wages is to operate from October 1. The award is for on* voar.
