Weather mainly fair and warm, but rain extending at times from the Alps into the foothills. Seas moderate on the coast, rough offshore. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of je South Island is:— Strong north-westerly winds to gales. Weather squally and unsettled, with further rain. Heavy falls probable, with flooding in places. Temperatures mild. Seas rongb. DOMINION The forecast for the Dominion is:— Mainly fair in eastern districts, elsewhere unsettled, with rain at times. At first, more especially on the West Coast of the South Island, where further heavy fails are probable; but rain gradually , becoming more widespread. Temperatures warm cast of the ranges. Elsewhere mild. There is little change in the general situation. Pressure is still high to the north, while a deep westerly depression, one of a series, is passing in the south. Winds—North-westerlies prevailing, moderate to strong over the northern half of the North Island; elsewhere strong and squally generally, with boisterous gales in places, turning temporarily to south-west in parts of the southern half of the South Island. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Moderate in coastal waters on' most of the east coast. High about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Elsewhere rough. Eastern Tasman Sea—Strong northwest to south-west winds to gales and rough seas. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER Yesterday was fine and warm again in Christchurch. There was a moderate north-westerly wind in the afternoon, which became stronger about 6 pjii. The maximum temperature during the day was 69.2 degrees. At 1 o'clock this morning the sky. was clear and there was a strong north-west wind. The temperature was 53 degrees and the barometer 29.85 inches, rising. Meteorological observations, taken at the Magnetic Observatory. Christchurch. on September 14:— 9 a.m. 5 p.m.
IN OTHER PLACES Auckland—Fine but cloudy weather, with a moderate to fresh wind from the south-west, was experienced during the day. The maximum temperature was 66 degrees. The barometer was steady, with the reading at 3 p.m. &20 inches. Wellington—The weather was cloudy to. overcast and mild, with a boisterous north-westerly gale. The minimum temperature on Tuesday night was "•2 degrees, and the maximum yesterday 57 degrees. At 3 pjn. the temperature was 55.3 degrees and the barometer 29.817 inches.
Dunedin —The sun shone brightly yesterday and there was a strong wind from the north-west. The weather was exceptionally warm for this tune of the year, the temperature reaching * maximum of 70 degrees. After nsJig on the previous day the barometer fell steadily yesterday to 29.40 inches
