ARMY SERVICE CORPS
TREK TO WESTPORT WILL BEGIN TO-DAY TROOPS ENTERTAINED AT GREYMOUTH [THE PRESS Special Service.] GREYMOUTH, September 13. The unit of the Army Service Corps which arrived at Greymouth yesterday on a trek under service conditions to the West Coast, and which is camped at Victoria Park, will leave to-morrow morning for Westport, by way of the coastal road. It is due to arrive at 8.30 p.m., and will be welcomed by the Deputy-Mayor (Mr E. R. Fox). The return trip to Christchurch will be made by way of Reefton and the Lewis Pass. The unit paraded this morning for visits to all the schools in Greymouth, where the children were given every opportunity to inspect the many lorries and other vehicles included in the equipment of the unit. In the afternoon, leave was given to all ranks to enable the men to see the town, and last evening the members of the unit were the guests of the Greymouth Returned Soldiers’ Association at a smoke concert, before which the territorial officers at Greymouth were entertained to dinner by the visiting officers.
