SPEED LIMITS EXCEEDED For exceeding the speed limit in a motor-lorry, Horatio Barker was fined £2 and ordered to pay costs. Matthew Patrick Crowe was fined £2 and ordered to pay costs for failing to keep to the left at an intersection. Duncan Edward Burbury was fined £2 and ordered to pay costs for exceeding 25 miles an hour in a restricted area, with a heavy traffic vehicle. For exceeding 30 miles an hour on Riccarton road, Ray Harold Lester Ritchie, a motorist, was fined £5 and ordered to pay costs. A motor-cyclist, Dudley C. McArthur, was ordered to pay costs only on a charge of speeding. Godfrey Cracroft Wilson was fined £5 and ordered to pay costs for exceeding the 30 miles an hour restriction in a motor-car. REGULATIONS BROKEN For driving a lorry with a load of pine logs exceeding the regulation width, David Henry Casson was tinea 10s and ordered to pay costs. David Welsh was fined 10s and ordered to pay costs for riding a motorcycle without lights. A motor-cyclist, William John Farnsworth, was ordered to pay costs only on a charge of overtaking vehicles on the incorrect side. REMANDED Claude Albert Taylor (Mr W. F Tracy) was remanded until September 19 on a charge of obtaining £ls 10s with intent to defraud, from the Farmers’ Trading Company at Rotorua by representing that a cheque for £ls 10s was a good and Valid order. Detec tive-Sergeant J. Bickerdike, asking for the remand, said that another charge would probably be brought. FALSE PRETENCES Charles James Flutey (Mr R. A. Young) was charged with obtaining two gold watches from Mason, Struthers, Ltd., by false pretences. The defendant was fined £b, in default three months’ imprisonment with hard labour, and he was ordered o make restitution of the goods. CIVIL COURT (Before Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M.) Judgment for plaintiff .by default, the defendant being ordered to pay costs, was given in each of the following undefended civil cases:— Hume Pipe Company (Aust.), Ltd., v. E. K. Miller, £5 Is 8d; W. H. Wooldridge v. A. Forman, £2; Edward Acton Gibbon Thompson v. Marion G. Stevens, 7s 6d; Bishop and Company, Ltd., v. Stephen McDonald, £2 16s 7d; L. B. Scott. Ltd., v. W. McDonald, £5 10s; receiver for debenture holder, Clements and Judkins. Ltd., v. F. J. Leggett, costs only: Booth, Macdonald and Company, Ltd.. v, H. E. Harvey. £3O 12s; same v. R. Lunam. £ls; Cyclone Fence and Gate Company, Ltd., v. C. T. Hartley, £6 9s; Thomas Hornsley and Company, Ltd., v. New Zealand Display Service, Ltd., £42 11s 2d. On a judgment summons L. Cox was ordered to pay A. Cameron £l3 5s 8d forthwith, in default 19 days’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended until seven days after the service of the order. WRONG NUMBER-PLATES George Husband was charged with operating an unregistered vehicle, using wrong number-plates, having no warrant of fitness, and no heavy traffic licence. The defendant pleaded guilty to having no heavy traffic licence and not guilty to the other three charges. Mr W. R. Lascelles appeared for the Christchurch City Council. The defendant was fined £5 and ordered to pay costs on each of three charges, and ordered to pay costs only on the other charge of having no warrant of fitness. ORDERS MADE In the Magistrate’s Court on Monday maintenance and separation orders and an order for custody of a child were made against John Reynolds Hammond in favour of his wife. Maintenance was fixed at 20s a week.
