HIGHER PRICES FOR MEALS

RECOMMENDATION MADE BY RESTAURANT OWNERS A recommendation that the prices of three-course meals in restaurants be increased by 3d, and that the increase be effective immediately, was made yesterday morning at a meeting of the Canterbury Restaurant and Tea-room Proprietors’ Association. It was stated that the higher prices were necessary to meet increases in costs and -overhead.

Some of the larger restaurants in the city increased their prices at the beginning of last week, and it is likely that the others will make the increase without delay. >■

The increase will apply only to three-course meals and not to morning and afternoon teas. Recently an increase in the Wellington prices by a surcharge of Id on all meals was reported, but prices were already higher in Wellington than in Christchurch, according to the secretary of the association. Mr J. B. Trudgeon.

An increase in the retail prices of cakes was announced last week.
