The Minister for Public Works (the Hon. H. Semple) addi’essed a meeting at Methven last evening and later returned to Christchurch, Motions of condolence with the relatives of Messrs H. Keys, L. J. Wills, and J. Y. Moxr, members of the association whose deaths occurred this month, were carried by last night’s meeting of the executive of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association.
Mr John Farrell, representing J. C. Williamson Theatres, Ltd., has arrived from the north to complete arrangements for the production of “Balalaika.”
Mr A. H. Bridge was last evening re-elected representative of the Christchurch branch on the council of the New Zealand Town Planning Institute. A meeting of the branch also approved of the nomination of Messrs A. R. Galbraith, E. H. Andrews, and C. O. Barnett to membership of the council.
A motion of sympathy with the relatives of Mr R. Nairn, who was. a life member of the Canterbury Horticultural Society, was passed at a meeting of the committee of the society last evening.
The Hon. F. E. O’Flynn, M.L.C.. Mr H. E. Herring, M.P., and Mr C. Morgan Williams, M.P., left for Wellington by the steamer express last evening.
