WELLINGTON, September 11

The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows;

Freshening north-westerly winds with some showers in the back country, but elsewhere fair to fine and warm. Seas slight to moderate.

WEST COAST The following is the forecast for the West Coast of the South Island:—

Fresh winds, between northwest and south-west. Weather cloudy' to overcast, with intermittent rain. Temperatures moderate. Seas rather rough to rough.

DOMINION The following is the Dominion fore cast;—

Fair to fine and mild in eastern districts south of East Cape; elsewhere changeable, with showers at times, more especially on the West Coast of the South Island and in the far south. An anti-cyclone is centred between Cape Maria van Diemen and Norfolk Island, and a series of depressions of moderate intensity is crossing the south Tasman sea and southern New Zealand.

Winds—South-westerly at first north of Cape Egmont, otherwise westerly to north-westerly, moderate to fresh mainly, but reaching gale force at times later in exposed positions in and south of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rather rough to rough on the West Coast, and slight to moderate on the east coast. Eastern Tasman Sea—Freshening westerly winds, with moderate to rather rough seas in the northern portion; strong west to north-west winds with rough seas in the southern portion.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

The weather in Christchurch yesterday was very fine and sunny, with a cloudless fky, and a cold easterly wind. The sky clouded in the late afternoon, but the evening was cold and clear. The weather on Saturday was also fine, with a slight easterly wind. At one o’clock this morning the sky was clear and a light easterly wind was blowing. The temperature was 44 degrees. The barometer, falling, stood at 29.90 in. Meteorological observations, taken at the Magnetic iDbscrvatory, Christchurch, on September 10:

Auckland—The weather was fine over the week-end, the wind on Saturday being southerly; on Sunday the wind was westerly to south-westerly and moderate. There were some showers. The barometer was steady, standing at 31.6 inches at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Wellington—Saturday was cloudy to overcast, with an occasional very light drizzle. There was 'a moderate but decreasing southerly wind. The minimum temperature on Friday night was 42.9 degrees, and on Saturday the maximum was 50.8. Sunday, after being cloudy in the early morning, provided a welcome change to bright sunshine, mild temperatures, and a very light north-east breeze. The minimum temperature on Saturday night was 41.8 degrees, and the maximum on Sunday was 59.0 degrees. At 3 p.m. the temperature was 56.6 degrees, and the barometer stood at 29.99 inches.

Dunedin—The weather during the week-end was bright and sunny, but a cool north-easterly breeze kept temperatures down, the maximum on Saturday being 51 degrees. The barometer fell slowly, and the reading at 5 p.m. on Sunday was 29.85 inches.
