SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Miss Dorothy Norrie, who has been spending’ a holiday with her parents, Mr and Mrs J. A. Norrie, Otipua road, left on her return to Queenstown on Saturday. Mr and Mrs J. J. Heasley (Nelson terrace), who have been on a visit to the North Island, returned to Timaru on Saturday. Mrs G. H. R. Ulrich (Wai-iti road) and her children returned on Saturday from a visit to Mrs S. Chaffey (Mount Possession). Mr and Mrs James Allport (Blenheim) returned home yesterday. Miss M. Pitcaithly (Skilton) is visiting her sister, Mrs Bruce Baxter (Evans street). CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Catholic Women’s League was held in the league’s rooms Stewart Dawson’s buildings, yesterday afternoon, the acting-president, Miss A. Buckley, presiding. Bishop Brodie was present, and there was a good attendance of members. The annual report, a precis of which was published in The Press” on Friday, and the bal-ance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Miss Buckley vicepresidents, Mrs G. Murray-Aynsley, Misses Mary O’Connor and Mina Ward: honorary secretary, Miss K. O’Connor; associate honorary secretary. Miss H. Nottingham; members of council, Mesdames T. Aspell, F. C. Delany, Alex Forb # A. J. Malley, H. M. Williams, Misse's B. M. Sloan. E. Kelly, F. Welsh ' P. Wall, and E. Doherty; entertainment committee, Mesdames W. Irwin, Alan Wills. T. C. O’Keefe, O. Egden, Frank O’Brien, J. Kearns, B. F. Smyth, W. G. Ives, M. Shelley, Misses N. Enright, M. Hayward, M. O’Connor, J. Crowley, F. Welsh. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Alan Wills, the League’s honorary auditor. Miss Buckley paid a tribute to the good work done during the last two years by Mrs H. M. Williams, who had attended to the arrangements for supper and afternoon tea at each gathering of the league, and by Miss K. O’Connor, who had arranged the programmes for the entertainments. The president said that the league would welcome junior members, who would be admitted at a lower subscription than ordinary members. She thanked Bishop Brodie for his continued interest in the league and its activities. The bishop congratulated the league on its progress and its satisfactory financial position. He outlined spheres of work that he hoped would be undertaken by members in the coming year, particularly emphasising the importance of practice in public speaking.

WOOLSTON DAFFODIL FAIR • A successful fair, organised by the Woolston Ladies’ Guild, in aid of trust fluids, was held in the schoolroom last week. The stalls, decorated in daffodil colours, were well stocked, and during the afternoon and evening did good business. Mrs Laycock, of Deaconess House, opened the fair, and Mrs E| H. Martin, of Kaiapoi, judged the cookery and decorative competitions. The stall-holders were:—Cakes, Mesdames Newton, Trerise, and Frisk; flowers, Mesdames Smith and Palkingham; plain sewing, Mrs S. McHarg; variety, Mesdames Findlay and Ramsay; towel and handkerchief, Mesdames Hall and Bethune; shilling/ Mesdames Anderson, D. McHarg, and Miss Makin; sweets, Mrs Weame and Sunday school teachers; produce, young men’s Bible class; tearooms. Mesdames Turner, Argue, and Thompson; competitions, Mrs L. A. G. Brooks. CHURCH SOCIAL AT PREBBLETON The fortnightly social gatherings arranged by the women’s committee and held in the Prebbleton Parish Hall to assist All Saints’ Church continue to be popular. Prize-winners at the last function were Mrs.C. Hands. Mrs S. Greenslade, Mr J,. Hill, and Mr R. Cherry. Members of the women’s committee were in charge of the supper arrangements. Those present were Mr and Mrs H. Hoff, Mr and Mrs A. Tomson, Mr and Mrs C. Hands. Mr and Mrs W. Hamilton. Mr and Mrs H. Prebble, Mesdames G. Rutherford, J. McClintock, A. Page, P. Page, W. Hands, E. Inwood. J. Dick. S. Greenslade. W. Downey. J. Anderson, Misses E. Anderson, J. Anderson, V. White, M. Barr, N. Tomson, K. Tod, B. Hands, N. Gallagher, V. Smith, N. James, J. Tomson, Brown, L. Anderson. Messrs J. Hill, R. Cherry, S. Hands, A. Hands, L. Dick, Brown, A. Tomson, A. Tutton, B. Crossen, A. Johnson. W. Davison, C. Watson, C. Devine, and J. James. The card social and dance organised by the Cust School Committee proved most enjoyable, and prizes were won by Miss Molly Jackson, Miss M. Pinlay, Mr T. Dick, and Mr W. Kellick.
