MAIN JAPANESE ATTACK
REPULSED
(Received September 10, 2 p.m.)
LONDON, September 9,
Chinese military headquarters at Hankow have announced the recapture of Kwangtsi, which, the Japanese took earlier in the week. The Japanese are reported to be retreating towards Huangmei after heavy losses, leaving units entrapped between Kwangtsi and Huangmei. This entails the repulse of one of the main attacks on Hankow. The Chinese also claim the recapture of Fenglingtu, forcing back the Japanese from the north bank of the Yellow river and removing the threat to the Lunghai railway. The Japanese continue their advance between the Yellow and Yangtse rivers, and they are now 60 miles from the Peiping-Hankow railway.
