RAILWAY ROAD SERVICES

SOUTH WESTLAND CONNEXION

A small road-passenger service, known as Harcourt’s, operating biweekly between Hokitika and Okarito, was taken over by the Railway Department on August 30. This latest acquisition has enabled the department to effect time-table co-ordination with its Hokitika-Waiho-Weheka connexion —the route to the Franz Josef and Fox glaciers—the result .being a better service and a considerable saving of vehicle miles on the South Westland routes.
