ARMY SERVICE CORPS TREK TO THE WEST COAST. —Military manoeuvres under active service conditions are being carried out by the Christchurch company of the Army Service Corps, which left King Edward Barracks on Saturday on the first stage of a trek to the West Coast. These photographs were taken en route. (1) Preparing dinner for the troops at Arthur’s Pass. (2) Part of the convoy near Cass. (3) A petrol cooker of the British War Office pattern used for the first time in New Zealand. (4) Troops lined up at Arthur’s Pass, where a halt was made. (5) Preparing for another day’s journey. Territorial is loading one of the transport vans. One of the main objects of the trek is to test the efficiency of the drivers of the motor vehicles and the equipment under difficult conditions.
