Sir Malcolm Campbell has flatly refused the request of his British friends and associates to give up further speed trials. A message from Lord Rothermere referred to the calamitous risks involved, and saying that Britain could not afford to lose so gallant a sportsman. Sir Malcolm said: "I fully realise the risks. I will make no further attempts unless the beach and the weather conditions improve considerably. I will stay here 10 days, in the hope of better conditions."
