An appeal has begun in the Supreme Court against the conviction of Gerald Griffin, who was sentenced to six months' imprisonment in November for being a prohibited immigrant. Counsel submitted that there was no evidence of where Griffin came from, or whether he was in Australia before his conviction. The only evidence was that ]ie was seen aboard the Monowai and the Marama on separate occasions before receiving a dictation test in Gaelic. The hearing was adjourned.
