CONVICTION OF GERALD GRIFFIN
appeal to sri'R(•::,[i: conn (Received March 11, 11.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 11. An appeal has begun in the Supreme Court against the conviction of Gerald Griffin, who was sentenced to six months' imprisonment in November for being a prohibited immigrant. Counsel submitted that there was no evidence of where Griffin came from, or whether he was in Australia before his conviction. The only evidence was that ]ie was seen aboard the Monowai and the Marama on separate occasions before receiving a dictation test in Gaelic. The hearing was adjourned.
