WILD OUTBREAK IN CUBA

Threat of Revolutionary Strike SIX KILLED IN STREET FIGHTING (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT.) (Received March 11, 9.30 p.m.) HAVANA, March 10. A general revolutionary strike threatened in Cuba on Sunday night as more unions answered the call for a walk-out. By midnight, bombs exploding down town in Havana, and rifle fire added two deaths to the toll of four dead and eight wounded during the Saturday night outbreak, which was the wildest since the 1933 revolution. The constitution has been suspended, and President Mendieta is empowered to dictate any measures necessary to protect the public and preserve order. The powerful union of railroad workers on main lines between Havana and Santiago joined the strike on Sunday. [The date of the election in Cuba was originally set down for December 30, 1934, but was later postponed to March 3. No cable messages about the election have been received, so presumably it has again been postponed. According to "Current History" the campaign is being "conducted with bombs, castor oil, strikes, and ultimatums." Last December eight members of the staff of "Accion," the newspaper of the A.B.C. party, who were suspected of revolutionary tendencies, were kidnapped and compelled to swallow large doses of castor oil. The policy of the A.8.C., it is stated, is to wait until all other factions wear themselves down and then to seize power at one swift stroke.] STATE OF WAR (Received March 11, 11.45 p.m.) HAVANA, March 11. A state of war was declared throughout Cuba to-day.
