DAMAGED MOTOR CAR INSURED
CHARGES OF CONSPIRACY TO DEF'iAI'D • TRBSS ASSOCIATION TEI.ESRAM.I AUCKLAND. March 11. The collection of ail insurance claim on a car which was actually insured after the damage was done was revealed in the Magistrate's Court, when further charges of conspiracy were heard. The accused were Alfred Ernest Hay and Norman Fraser, who pleaded guilty and were committed for sentence, and Alexander Frederick Murray, who pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial. Evidence was given that until last July Fraser was employed as senior claims assessor by the North Island Motor Union Mutual Insurance Company. The car was insured for £IOO on November 11, 1933, in the name of Frederick Murray, and on November 20 a claim was made in respect of damage alleged to have been done in a collision on November 19. The particulars were filled in by Fraser, who, as assessor, was assigned the investigations. He duly reported, and also submitted four photographs of the damaged car. The company paid out £62 9s 6d for repairs which were done by a service station of which Hay was the principal. Later it was proved that the photographs were given to a film shop eight days before the alleged accident occurred, and that the car involved was bought by Hay in Tauranga in a damaged state.
