Twenty thousand persons from all parts of Germany, including the former Crown Prince, saw the German, Max Schmeling, 13st lOJlb, technically knock out the American, Steven Hamas, 13st in the ninth round. The referee stopped the fight after Hamas had gamely taken severe punishment. Max Baer. world's heavy-weight champion, will meet the winner early this summer. A message from London states that the Hamburg correspondent of the "Daily Mail" says that Schmeling had never before been so overpowering. The victory sent the spectators into transports of delight. Hamas was so savagely punished that even storm troopers shouted to the referee to intervene in the seventh round. It was inexplicable why he did not. Hamas's manager said that an osteopath sat in the American's corner throughout the tight, treating an elbow injured in training. I CHRISTCHURCH SPORTS CLUB ANNUAL MEETING The annual general meeting of the Christchurch Amateur Boxing and Sports Club was held last evening in the Casterbury Jockey Club's rooms. Mr A. R. Harris was in the chair. The annual report was adopted. Moving the adoption of the report the chairman said that it was very gratifying to note the support that members had given the association during the year. He especially appreciated the manner in which the i committee, trainers, and boxers had carried out their duties. He hoped that in 'he coming season a central committee would be formed with the object of arranging matches with overseas boxers, and also to create a feeling of kinship with the other New Zealand associations.
