WYNDHAM T.C.

TO-MORROW'S MEETING The big acceptances received by the Wyndham Trotting Club for its meeting, which will be held to-morrow, give promise of first-class racing, and though the Canterbury horses nominated have declined their engagements, there is plenty of material from the southern districts to provide the keenest competition. The following horses should race well in their respective races:— Ferry Handicap—Lady Sonoma, Imperial Wave, Bell Norris. Novice Handicap—Pacha, Mishap, Autogo. Toi Tois Handicap—Anthum, Weary Voyage, Sergeant Dallas. Wyndham Cup Handicap—Wrackette, Kibo, Lynwood. Edendale Handicap—Royal Drive, Royal Guy, Ready Money. Menzies Handicap—Leeway, Sylvia Moko, Kippagh. President's Handicap—Fairhaven, Happiness, Dame Fortune. Final Handicap—Lynwood, Mountain Jewel, Rocks Ahead. The day's programme is as follows:

SO A SURPRISE WIN BIG DIVIDEND AT TE RAPA [THE PRESS Special Service,] AUCKLAND, March 11. A very big dividend paid by Salesman in the first race created much excitement at Te Rapa to-day. The horse had not started before at a-to-talisator meeting and carried only £6 10s on the win machine and £ll 10s on the place machine. Frequently when a horse springs a surprise it is found that his connexions have allowed him to run without supporting him. but on this occassion the owner, Mr J. L. Macky, of Pirongia, and the trainer, A. Cook, of Te Awamutu, each had an investment of £1 on the win machine. These were the only £1 tickets issued on Salesman. In addition, Macky had a 10s ticket for a place. Salesman is the first horse Mr Macky has raced. He bought the dam, a Permit mare, for £3 when he was a pupil at the Hamilton High School eight years ago. His object was to breed hacks. The mare was mated with Lochiel Abbey, by Quin Abbey. The result was Salesman, now four years old, who, after showing some pace, was trained by his owner in a paddock on his father's farm with the object of competing in the Ladies Bracelet race at Pirongia last Boxing Day. The horse displayed such promise that he was started in a better race instead, and ran third. Less than two months ago he was placed under the charge of Cook, with happy results. INVESTMENTS ON TOTALISATOR GENERAL ADVANCE RECORDED A feature of the racing and trotting held in New Zealand since March 1 is that each of the nine meetings to date has shown an inci'ease in the totalisator turnover, varying from £272 to £5542. It can be stated that fine weather was experienced for all the programmes, but the results undoubtedly go to show that racing and trotting generally are gradually regaining lost ground throughout the Dominion, and that the improved conditions have allayed much anxiety on the part of many of the smaller clubs, which only a few months back were j doubting their ability to carry on. One instance in this regard is orovided by the Cromwell Jockey Club, which feared that another such meeting as ! recorded 12 months ago would me-m ! discontinuation, but last week's reunion turned out such a financial sue-

cess, due to increased speculation, that next year's fixture can be looked forward to with every confidence. The details of the month's iurr.r.v. to date are as follows:
