COUNTY COUNCILS

ASHLEY The Ashley County Council met at Loburn on Thursday, when there were present: Messrs H. T. Metherell (chairman), Macleod, McCracken, Mackintosh, Philpott, and Pulley. Acting on the Lees Valley surfaceman's report, it was agreed to provide trees and fencing for the upper hut site. The protest of the Christchurch City Council against the non-liability of the Crown to pay rates was strongly supported. The chairman and Mr Philpott were appointed to attend the conference called by the Christchurch City Council next Wednesday afternoon to consider the allocation of heavy traffic f€6S. A ratepayer under a Crown mortgage applied to- work off with his team some arrears of rates, and this offer was accepted. Top-dressing the Glentui bridge and placing pipes at the top of the east approach of the Washpool bridge were authorised, as was the concreting of the bolsters at the Bullock creek and the Kowhai creek fords.
