AUSTRALIAN CUP WON BY SYLVANDALE KIMILLA AND COUNT ITO SUCCESSFUL (UNITED CRESS ASSOCIATION- FIT EI.ECTKIO TELEGttAI'H—COPY R.HI TIT.) (Received March 10, 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, March 0. The weather was warm and there j was a large attendance for the con- I eluding day of the Victoria Racing Club's autumn meeting. J Menelik appreciated the longer journey. and improved on his Pines j Hurdle form to win the Autumn Hurdles. lie is raced by I'har L,ap owner-trainer, H. R. Telford. Bayntun was very distressed al'ter the race, and his connexions held a suspicion that the gelding had been doped. Swabs were taken, and an enquiry will be held later. Despite the fact that he steered an erratic course over the final stages, | Bimilla outclassed her rivals in the Ascot Vale Stakes, directing attention to the unfortunate oversight in not nominating her sire, Excitement, for the Sires' Produce Stakes, thus making the lilly ineligible for that event. She will probably prove the outstanding juvenile of the season. K. Voitre's. vigorous horsemanship was the chicl factor in Count Ito's victory in the C. M. f.loyd Stakes. Lie was loudly cheered. Count 110 has now had four wins in succession. Today's was his last run under the ownership of his trainer, P. B. Quinlan. SylvandnJe was always well placed in "the Australian Cup. and had do trouble in withstanding La Trobe's challenge. Flail finished well to beat Topical for third place. King March was a possibility at the straight entrance, but tired. Gold Trail was never dangerous. The time was only half a second outside Nadean's Flemington record. Sylvandale is owned by Miss Lorna Doone, the first woman owner to win the race. Sectional times of the Australian Cup were: —First six furlongs lmin 21sec, next four 492 sec, subsequent four 51sec, last four 48jsec, last six lmin 13£ sec.
