Turnbul! and Company, Ltd., report as follows under dale March 8: The estimated arrivals in the United Kingdom during March-April and May compared with actual arrivals in previous seasons, of New Zealand butter, in tons, are: 1933. 1934. 1935. March .. 13,867 18,080 13,500 April .. 11,012 9,287 11,700 May .. 8,061 14,360 10,000 33,540 41,733 35,200 The arrivals of New Zealand cheese, in tons, arc:— 1933. 1931. 1935. March .. 12,631 13,178 10,000 April 11,816 9.195 9.200 May .. 7,062 11,079 3.500 31.509 33,452 27,700 During the first week in February, Uk! United States continued to buy steadily both on the London market and in New Zealand, and all markets remained firm. London quotations touched 93s on February 5, when U.S.A; buyers withdrew, and lrorn that time the markets have steadily declined. During the tirsl half of the month the arrival.; of New Zealand butter in London were abnormally heavy, owing to some six steamers arriving together. This caused some pressure to sell and further depreciated values. The stock position remains particularly soiintl and Messrs V/. Wcddcl and Company, Ltd., advise that they expect a partial recovery of market prices almost immediately. At the end of February the Imperial Economic Committee; estimated that the total stocks in the United Kingdom were some 7000 tons Jess than at the .same period last year. New Zealand production has continued to fall away very considerably, whilst on the other hi'.nd Australian grading:: show an increase, practically corresponding with the New Zealand decline. Forward buyers have shown no interest whatever in butter during the last lew weeks. The cheese market has been considerably steadier than butter, but, as usual, cheese weakened to some exunt with the fall in butter prices. Messrs W. Wcddel and Company, Ltd , m their latest cablegram stale that although the cheese stocks are above normal, they anticipate that in view ol the smaller arrivals of New Zealand cheese from now onwards, there will be a iiniier tone m tile cheese market.
