ALSATIAN DOGS
TO THB EDITOB or THE PRBSS. Sir,—May my protest be heard against those responsible for the freedom of the Alsatian dogs which roam in the vicinity of Rapaki road and Murray Ansyley Hill, St. Martins? These animals slink (the word implies a lot) about to the danger of all; residents and strangers traversing the road near the houses of their owners are frequently embarrassed, not to say terrified, by their snarls, snaps, and barks. It is all very well for the masters or mistresses to emerge from their gates, authoritatively call off the ugly, dangerous brutes, and indicate with an airy wave of the hand and a patronising smile that, "He would not hurt you." More than one menaced person has been given the impression that he has had a near call. Surely it is obligatory on the part of local authorities to compel owners to keep such vicious dogs off the public highway and under proper control.—Yours, etc., SHOTGUN. March 8, 1935.
