Through ! the purchase of the two famous bulls. Troy and Taffy, for 1150 guineas, the best of the famous Gladbrook blood was introduced. They were succeeded by Commander of Omarunui, also of pure Gladbrook blood, who won many Championships, including the 1928 New Zealand Royal Championship. Several of his sons have also been used in the stud. The principal herd sire to-day is the Royal winning and 1934 Hawke's Bay ' champion. Actium of Gwavas, a grandson of the famous champion, Prince Charles of Gwavas. Other notable bulls used of recent years included Elect of Mangatoro (sire, Victor of Rarichie, imp., dam, Erica of Cloehie, imp). Honest of Matapihi, sire of a number of pre-sent-day winners, and the Royal winning and 1934 Dannevirke Champion, Eurotas of Gwavas (sire, Sumach of Gwavas, Royal Champion, dam, Country Lass, imp). Notable breeding cows added to the herd in recent years include Pearl of Ben Lomond, dam of the 1935 Dannevirke Champion cow, Lace of Omarunui; Niobe of Akitio, of the famous Vivacious strain; Naam of Akitio, of the Celandine of Drummuir strain and the dam of Hector of Omarunui, a winner in N.Z. who was exported to Australia; Norma of Akitio, by Moose II.; Corskie 3rd of Bywell, by Nyanga of Bywell: Janet Ist of Bywell, by Victor of Rarichie (imp.); and that great imported cow, Queenly of Ballintomb, by Prince Blueblood of Ballindalloch from Quarto, a noted cow bred by his Majesty the King, etc. The offering comprises:— 86 Stud Cows and Heifers in calf. 16 Stud and Run Bulls, 2 to 3 years. 19 Rising two-year-old Stud Heifers. 52 Rising one-year-old Bulls and Heifers.
