GREYMOUTH SURF CLUB (STECIAL TO THE PRESS.) GREYMOUTH, March 7. , Mr C. Richardson presided over a meeting of the Greymouth Surf LifeSaving Club last evening. It was decided that the West Coast championships be held on the Blaketown beach on Sunday. March 17. A silver cup and a trophy valued at £2 were received from anonymous donors, and it was decided to allocate these to the three-men rescue event, and the six- | men event, respectively, at the cham- j pionships. Personal Commandant A. Wheeler, assistant officer of the Greymouth Corps of the Salvation Army, has been promoted to the rank of Major. Commissioner F. Adams, who recently took over the command of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, will pay his initial visit to Greymouth on Sunday, March 31. Mr and Mrs Hugh Morgan have returned from a visit to Christchurch. Mr E. Adkins, of' Wellington, is visiting Greymouth. Mrs Newton and Mr L. Newton, who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs H. Hopper, left to-day on return to Wellington. Cycling A series of cycle races were run at i Victoria Park last evening, by the I Grevmouth Sports and Cycling Club. [ A soft track affected the times, but the racing was keen and interesting. Results were:—Half-mile, senior: P. Duffy (sen 1. J. Daniels (15yds) 2. V. Hogarth (85yds) 3; time, lmin 8 1-5 sec. Junior mile: D. Johnston (scr) 1, D. Morland (50yds) 2. J. Archer (75yds) 3; time, 2min 35sec. Two miles, senior: J. Daniels (65yds; 1. J. Larking (65yds) 2, D. Johnston <lßoyds) 3: time. smin 5 2-ssec. Shortage of Fish Owing to heavy seas on the bar, it is five days since the local fishing boats have been able to go out. and there is a shortage of fish. Magistrate's Couft In the Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Mr N. V. Lovell, J.P.. Malcolm Nathaniel Boyd was charged that on or about July 12, at Waimatc, he broke and entered the jam factory of Elizabeth Hodges and stole articles of a total value of £63 10s 9d. Accused was remanded to appear at Tnnaru on March 9. Home and School Association At an executive meeting of the Home and School Association, in the Grey Main School, the purchase of a display board and two new cricket bats for the school was approved. Funds raised through the school concert, swimming carnival and subscription's showed a credit balance. Mr A. E.
