ROAD AGAIN BLOCKED FURTHER SLIP NEAR LYELL (SPECIAL TO THE PEESS.) NELSON, March 7. The Public Works Department advises that the Murchison-Inangahua road is again blocked, owing to another slip near Lyell. It is stated that •the hillside which gave trouble during the recent heavy rains in that district is still moving. The road will not be reopened for several days. Ninety Tears Old Mr Langley Bell, of Tahunanui, celebrated his ninetieth birthday to-day Mr Bell received congratulations and good wishes from his many friends. Presentation to Employee On leaving the clerical staff 0 f Messrs J. R. Dodson and Son, of which she had been a member for 12 years. Miss Eileen Baxter, who will be married shortly, was presented by Mr R. Dodson, on behalf of her fellow employees, with an engraved silver tray and by Mr H. R. Duncan with a cheque. Tributes were paid to her services and sincere wishes were expressed for her future happiness. Salvation Army Promotion It was announced at the Salvation Army Hall last night that Adjutant Martin Brown had been promoted to the rank of major. He is thought to be the youngest major in the Salvation Army in New Zealand. Fire Brigade Relief Mr Bevis, of the Wellington Fire Brigade, has arrived in Nelson to act as relieving superintendent for the Nelson Fire Board while Superintendent A. Bennett goes to Wellington for three months for service with the brigade there, under an arrangement for the exchange of officers recently agreed upon by the two boards. Mr Bennett will go to Wellington on Tuesday. Funeral The funeral of Mr Robert Ellis wa« held yesterday. The service at the graveside at St. Paul's Church, Brightwater, was conducted by the Rev. Canon S. Quintrell. The pallbearers were Messrs F. Williams, W. Martin, A, Stagg, R. Best, G. Best, and A. E. Ellis. Among those present were Messrs G. J. McDonald, R. Freeman, P. S. Boyes, representing the Waimea Electric Power Board, and the members of the staff of the Brightwater Hydro Station. Yachting With the exception of Consolation Day, the Nelson Yacht Club's season racing programme has now been completed. The final positions and trophies won during the present season are:— Glasgow Cup—Valkyrie (12pts) 1, Scandal (lOpts) 2, Spartan (Bpts) 3, Cactus (4pts) 4. Aurora Cup—Snipe (lOpts) 1, Patricia (lOpts) 2 (Snipe defeated Patricia in a race off), Sea Mew (6pts) 3, Evelyn (4pts) 4. Carlton Trophy—Cappy Ricks 1. J. J. Cook Gold Medal—Rose 1. Harris Trophy—Sea Mew (lOpts) 1, Rose (Bpts) 2. Championship of Harbour ShieldValkyrie. Cook Shield—Sea Mew (23pts) 1, Valkyrie (21pts) and Snipe (21pts) equal 2, Rose (18pts) 4, Spartan (17pts) 5, Scandal (16pts) 6. Besley Cup—Scandal. Club Pennants —Rodney (A class); Sea Mew (B class).
