Work on the electric power reticulation of the Waipara county by the North Canterbury Electric Power Board is being held up at the present time owing to shortage in the supply of poles for the main feeder line, and the pole gang has been put off in the meantime. The shipment of about 350 poles was due to arrive in New Zealand from Australia about a week ago, but. so far these have not come to hand. The pole line has been taken about one mile past the Waipara township and the township, including private residences, has been wired ready for the current. The house wiring staff is at present engaged on installation work at Waikari, so that when be a minimum of delay before the residents obtain the benefit of the electricity. The engineer-secretary (Mr A. Buckingham) of the North Canterbury Electric Power Board stated yesterday that the board could procure plenty of small desapped poles, but the 35-foot poles which were required for the main Waikari line were hard to obtain. iHe hoped that they would arrive 1 within the next week, when the pole gang would begin their erection immediately. Mr Buckingham said that Waipara would be supplied with electricity very soon.
