Dr. T. A. Mac Gibbon has returned to Christchurch after a five months' tour of Great Britain and the Continent. He was a passenger by the Zealandic, which went direct to Oamaru.
Mr J. Robertson, Dominion secretary of the Motion Picture Exhibitors' Association, has been selected as the official Labour candidate for the Masterton seat. He formerly represented Otaki in the House of Representatives from 1911 to 1915 —Press Association.
Members of the Otago provincial athletic team who passed through Christchurch last evening on their way to the New Zealand athletic championships at Wanganui were Messrs M. Spillane, Alister Cameron Hugh Milner, W. Pettet, T. Allen' B. Tapley, and R. O. Johnson (manager).
Members of the Canterbury athletic team who travelled north last evening for the New Zealand athletic championships at Wanganut were Messrs T. G. Broadway, F Barraclough, E. G. Young, J.' D. Nelligan, C. Bradwell, C. S. Barrell, A. T. Anderson, H. C. McCaskey, J. C. Morrison, N. W. Mulvey, and H. Saundercock (manager). '
Mr Maurice Ralph, who *is well known in Christchurch as a theatrical manager, will accompany the Clem Dawe revue company when it leaves Sydney at the beginning of May to open a tour of the provinces of England. Mr Ralph passed through Christchurch yesterday on his way to Auckland, where the company will give a farewell season.
The Rev. Father P. Timoney, of the Cathedral parish, will leave Christchurch to-night for Ireland. Father Timoney has been stationed at the Cathedral parish for the last 11 years, and during the last two or three years, he has been administrator. He expects to return about November this year. At the annual meeting last night of the Athletic Rugby Football Club, the president, Mr St. J. J. Dunne, on behalf of the club wished Father Timoney a pleasant voyage. Replying, Father Timoney said that he regretted that he would not be oresent for the football season. However, he would follow the progress of the club.
