Some of the members of the Napier Citizens' Band are wearing uniforms more than 20 years old. On a recent occasion when the Napier Band combined with the Hastings Band at a function in Hastings, it occurred to the secretary, Mr L. R. Jago, that the Napier bandsmen looked shabby in comparison with the Hastings men. This he mentioned in a report to the Napier Borough Council this week. "I might state." he said, "that while the Hastings Band has had three new uniforms our members are wearing old uniforms, some of which have been in use for more than 20 years. Steps to prevent any . recurrence of flooding of basements are being taken by several firms in Fort street lane, Auckland, which has suffered severely in recent downpours. A two-foot brick wall has been erecter by one firm as a protective measure.
